Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

After downloading and opening the app for the first time, you'll be prompted to Sign Up, Join a Family, or Sign In. Click on Sign Up and complete the required information to both create your user account and to create your family. Once you validate your email you'll be able to invite other members of your family to join.

In the process of creating or joining a family, you'll provide your email address along with a password. Your email address allows us to verify your identity and to secure your account. Verifying your email address ensures we're able to contact you about your account (e.g. if you forget or need to reset your password, to send you confirmation if you choose to delete your account, or for support purposes). You'll also need a verified email address before you're able to invite other family members to join your family.

To verify your email address, check your email after creating your account. You should receive an email from noreply@kukiniapp.com with the subject line “Verify your email for Kukini App”. Click on the link in the email to complete the verification process. If the link has expired, you can have a new verification email sent to you by going into Settings > Profile > Email. Click on the link to resend the verification email. In rare cases, the email is sent to your spam folder, so be sure to check there as well in case you can't find the email in your inbox.

You can add family member profiles to your family to better categorize content and, optionally, to invite that family member to participate with their own user account. After creating your family, you'll be able to create profiles for your family members, including children, pets, parents, grandparents, siblings, and more, up to your account plan limits (Standard has up to 4 family members and Premium has up to 10 family members). You can add family members from Settings > Family Members > Add Family Member.

If you would like that family member to join your family with their own user account (with their own username and password), you can invite them to join. You can invite them while you add their profile to your family for the first time in Settings > Family Members > Add Family Member or after you've added them in Settings > Family Members > [Family member name] > Invite to Join.

The invited family member will receive an invitation email sent from support@kukiniapp.com with the subject line “Invitation to join Kukini from [your name]” with instructions on how to download the app and accept the invitation. It's important that they use the exact email address you send the invitation to for signing up, so be sure to check the spelling. You can also send them an SMS message with the invitation from Settings > Family Members > [Family member name] > Invite to Join.

If you need to cancel or rescind the invitation, you can do so from Settings > Family Members > [Family member name] > Invite to Join by clicking on Delete Invitation.

To join an existing family, the administrator of the family needs to send you an invitation. After doing so, you'll receive an email sent from support@kukiniapp.com with the subject line “Invitation to join Kukini from [your admin's name]” with instructions on how to download the app and accept the invitation. When you open the app, you'll be prompted to Sign Up, Join a Family, or Sign In. Click on Join a Family and complete the required information to create your user account and join the family.

Be sure to use the exact email address the invitation was sent to. If you'd like to use another email address for your account, you can change the email address after joining or have your administrator delete the existing invitation and send you a new invitation to the email you prefer before joining.

Similar to family member profiles, you can create topics to better categorize and organize content. Topics are a great way to keep track of everything going on in your house and with your family that aren't specific to family members. For example, you might have a “home & auto” topic that you use for keeping track of home and auto maintenance chores, to-do's, and shopping. Or you might have a “vacation” topic you use for planning your vacations. You can create and manage topics from Settings > Topics.

Managing Accounts

We know that everyone's family situation changes over time. When you're done using our service, you can delete your account and all data associated with it easily from within the app at Settings > Delete Account or by contacting support. If you're an administrator of your family, the entire family along with all associated user accounts and data will also be deleted.

If you have a Premium subscription, be sure to cancel the subscription from the app store you purchased it from as deleting the account will not automatically cancel the subscription.

More information:

  • Delete Your Account (step-by-step instructions)
  • If a family member no longer uses their account, they can delete it themselves or you can delete it on their behalf. You can delete a family member's account and all data associated with it from Settings > Family Members > [Family member name] > Delete. This will delete their login credentials as well as all data they've created. Deleting the user account will not delete their family member profile or data that other users have created associated with that profile. If you'd like to also delete that information you can do so after deleting the user account.

You can change your email address from Settings > Profile > Email. If you haven't signed into the app recently, you'll be prompted to sign out and then sign back in again. To sign out, select Settings > Logout. After you sign back in and change your email address, you'll be sent an email to verify the new email address, similar to the process you went through when initially signing up.

    Calendars

Your family can view a read-only version of external calendars from services like Google, Apple, Outlook, and TeamSnap right alongside your Kukini shared calendar events. From the Settings > Subscribed Calendars screen, select Add Calendar Subscription. You'll be prompted to give the calendar a name and provide an iCalendar URL for the calendar. iCalendar (iCal) is a file format supported by most calendar apps that lets you sync and view a read-only version of your calendar events in other apps.

Below are instructions for obtaining the iCalendar feed URL for major calendar apps. Message or email yourself the URL and then copy/paste it into the Add Calendar Subscription form to get started. Kukini will automatically sync calendar events from the iCalendar feed up to twice a day.

    Instructions to get iCalendar url:

You can view a read-only version of your Kukini family calendar in other services, including Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, and other calendar apps. From the Settings > Published Calendars screen, select Add Published Calendar. You'll be prompted to create a name for the calendar and to select the Family Members and Topic categories you want to be included in the calendar feed. Only calendar events that have the selected Family Members and Topics as attendees will be included in the feed. This is a great way to share a particular child's schedule with a co-parent or caregiver that doesn't have access to your family account. Or you might want to view your family calendar alongside your work calendar and hence export events for all Family Members and Topics.

The feed will be published in iCalendar (iCal) format, a common file format supported by most calendar apps to share calendar data. After creating the published calendar, you'll be presented with the feed URL that you can use to finish the setup in other calendar apps. Note that the iCal feed URL is publicly accessible, so don't share the URL with anyone that you don't want to have access to your calendar.

    Premium Subscriptions

Kukini Premium can currently be purchased as a monthly or annual subscription through the Apple App Store. Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of the subscription period (monthly or annually). You can purchase a Premium subscription from within the iOS app in Settings > Account or when prompted throughout the app.

Purchase through the Google Play Store on Android is coming soon! If you're interested in purchasing Premium and have any questions, email us at support@kukiniapp.com.

If you'd like to cancel your Kukini Premium subscription, you can do so through the Apple App Store. To avoid being charged for the next subscription period, be sure to cancel the subscription at least 24 hours before the renewal.

    More information:

Yes! The Premium subscription only needs to be purchased once per family. All family members benefit from your Premium subscription and will have access to all of the features available on the Premium plan as long as your subscription is active.
